Why online work?
Every week, I meet with people from across the world.
They sit down at their computer screens, I sit down at mine, and we have deep conversations and build deep connection. Some clients want just a few sessions. And some of these connections last for years.
One benefit of broadening your search for services to include online providers is this: You simply multiply your options. My clients across the world are deeply engaged, curious, motivated clients — they’re searching for a person that really speaks to them and that immediately makes them more detailed and nuanced in their reading of different approaches. In these days where we’re all available to do online work, there are so many options open to you.
Clients often opt to see me online after they’ve tried some in-person options and are looking for something new, something novel. Most commonly, people who see me are looking for a flavor of connection and attunement they haven’t yet found elsewhere. Or they’re looking for a combo of approaches that isn’t available in their area.
Another reason people seek work across the world is confidentiality. Say that you’re in the helping field, like me. If you attend networking events in your town and are getting to know all the other folks who do this kind of work, you’re probably meeting delightful people but that it makes more sense to collaborate with — since you’re in the same area. Online work prevents this kind of conflict between which *type* of relationship to engage in.
What we do: Tending to What Feels Good for You
So what happens if you work with me? Well, we’ll tend to the places within that may be stuck, because they’re hurting, lonely, overextended, or exhausted.
As these places in you are met with compassionate body awareness and emotional resonance, your world begins to expand.
If you feel stuck within relationships or struggle to maintain connection, this work will be helpful because of a very moment-by-moment approach — you won’t wonder what I’m thinking and you’ll get feedback and help to see what helps your connection and what gets in the way. Feedback that so many people are hungry for, that we just don’t get enough of in our fast-paced world full of polite acquaintances.
We enter this work together with curiosity — I don’t assume that I know why you’re struggling and this work definitely is not about labeling problems. I’m just concerned with you — what happens in your body when you get depleted or diconnected. How you come alive in your world, your life, your connections. What the missing pieces are for you — whether that’s some resources to ground yourself, ways to work with maintaining energy and focus, or finding out what barriers might be in the way of relationships and what beautiful yearnings lay behind your walls — so we can tend to both — what’s kept you stuck, keys we can together turn to unlock those places, what disconnects you and what connects you deeply.
This is not airy-fairy work either — when you come in, I’ll help you notice what your goals are so that any work we do with your body or your emotions always links back to your goals. There is a huge difference between saying, “So what do you feel?” And saying, “So when you talk about your relationships, you say you feel less powerful than you’d like to. Shall we take a look at a recent example so we can together find your power?”
How does online coaching work?
This is collaborative work. Your goals and your motivation provide the engine. You do the steering of what we work with, and I help steer how we work with that within session to keep you focused on your goal. We find body resources and help you find your feelings so these feelings and this new energy in your body can help you do what you want to do in your world.
Insight isn’t enough
Perhaps you know a ton about yourself. You’ve maybe taken many personality tests, attended coaching sessions, do yoga, and know exactly how and why you disconnect. So what’s the problem? It’s like a sign I saw on a door at a shelter I used to work at: “We have no solutions, but the problems are stated beautifully!”
I want this work to go beyond insight, for you to have a new experience within yourself and within the collaboration with me. Because experiences are actually what help us change. Knowledge just isn’t enough.
Find ways to bring that “you” into your work and relationships.
Is online work right for you?
I’d love to meet you for a consultation to find out!
Online work is best for folks who already have some good insight. Who have a support network closer to home too. If you’re flexible, adaptable, and open to the adventure of online connection, I welcome you to contact me so we can sit down and do a meet-and-greet — see if our styles connect.
This online forum tends to work well with professionals who:
- Have a desire to connect more with themselves or others and want an empowering connective approach.
- Have found that to-do lists and inspirational quotes aren’t quite cutting it – they want an approach that helps them get to the heart of themselves and their desires.
- Want to quit running from your potential and find ways to express yourself – with your family, your colleagues, and your friends.
- Struggle to find the time for you amid all the “doing” – online work lets you meet with me right from your own home (or office) and helps me to help you to connect with yourself right where you are.
We’re in this together!
What’s the structure for this work?
Once you sign on with me, we’ll work out some details.
Some clients love the reliable structure of weekly meetings where we connect with whatever’s “up” that week in a way that deepens over time, and we let the results come naturally, checking in every step of the way.
Goals definitely help give this work direction, though, so we’ll do this work with an eye toward your goals and dreams. If setting goals is hard, we can find out why and help you access your desires so they can act as a compass both for our work together and for your life.
Some clients prefer a more intensive format to learn more about themselves and make deep, lasting change in just a few days of more focused work – with meetings, journaling exercises, and self-care (A guided “Just for me/refocusing retreat, all done online in the comfort of your own home!)
Others want to work out a system where I’m more readily available for their pre- “meltdown” moments (Otherwise known as opportunities for something new to happen!)
What kinds of things will we work on ?
People come with communication/relationship goals: “I want to be more open-hearted with my partner and kids.” Or, “I want to stop overreacting or shutting down or getting so wired I can’t let someone else get a word in. I want to connect more.”
Work goals: I want to find a way not to run myself so ragged at work and actually find the parts I enjoy. Or maybe I want to scrap this job, but first I want to discover what I really want to be doing.
Energy goals: I want to find out why I feel hyper-energized at sometimes and can’t slow down, and then slump in exhaustion.
And sometimes fuzzier goals: Something doesn’t feel quite right. I feel nervous and edgy a lot, and I want to find out what’s going on. You want to find out what’s underneath the worry thoughts and rumination that keeps you from seeing and feeling clearly what you want and who you are.
The Ways We’ll Work Together
Often, humor starts to break old patterns of thinking and help you see your life differently. Cients and I often laugh a lot together.
Questions: questions that help you look at things from different angles. Questions like,
“What would be FUN for you?”
Or to work with tension we notice in your body, “If that tension in your neck could speak, what words would it tell us?”
“As you finally share the depth of what you really want with me, what’s it like to say it out loud? To see and sense my support?”
These questions help you work your relationship muscles too, so they’re dual purpose – as we focus on you and your world, we also focus on what happens between us. Through finding the “unsettled” feelings (“I’m afraid I’m being presumptuous,” or “I feel fearful you won’t help,” or “I feel how lonely I am not having others know this about me too.”) we help transform your feelings both about your goals and how you hold them – in lonely fearful solitude or with the joyful support of others.
Questions can be playful or they can help you go deep. Often, the best work happens when we can play with ideas and go deep to the heart of some of your patterns – so you can see both a new way of thinking and feel a body/emotion level transformation.
Transform the barriers in your way to live the life you want.
Identify and move through the barriers keeping you from living the life you yearn for.
